When a development has paused, and empty property is sitting vacant for years, people often wonder what happened. The Culver Public Market, which has been in development for more than a decade, is now back on the drawing board, with significant changes.
Taking out the market hall – the previous defining feature of the site – creates a building less than half the previously proposed size, a very different picture of what the corners of Washington and Centinela could look like.
The amended project is open to community comment until May 9, 2025.
From the city, “On October 28, 2024, the City Council approved an amendment to the DDA for a modified project that reduces the overall project square footage by approximately 13,300 square feet by removing the market hall component and reducing/redesigning the adjacent parking structure. The updated schematic design maintains a simple, rustic aesthetic and will include expanded outdoor dining and plazas of approximately 9,600 square feet, new landscaping, public art/murals, and an open-air two-story City-owned parking structure that would support the project, as well as the surrounding commercial neighborhood.”
Culver Public Market, LLC, a Regency Centers affiliate, is the developer and part owner of the property.
The community is invited to review the updated site plan which can be accessed via the Culver City website at www.culvercity.org/City-Projects/Culver-Public-Market-Hall, and provide comments by Friday, May 9, 2025. The full schematic package is under review with City staff and includes additional details and refinements for the modified project and parking structure.
