“I feel that Fox Hills should not be deprived of representation in this matter.” Culver City Council member Yasmine Imani McMorrin spoke from the podium in front of the dais, rather than her usual council seat. Taking up the matter of herself and Vice Mayor Freddy Puza being recused from voting on the Fox Hills Site Specific Plan because they both reside in the area, she noted that “I think that Culver City would benefit from having better plans – and arguably, this should have been folded into the General Plan – but here we are.”
The presentation on the Fox Hills Plan came more than six hours into the meeting on April 28 – so at that point, it was April 29 – and while Planning Director Mark Meunzer promised to be brief, the council’s expected vote was put on hold.
McMorrin offered “I have questions of cases of council being recused when folks have voted on things where they have lived nearby or had family members impacted. I feel that we should postpone the vote until we get a decision from the FPPC [Fair Political Practices Commission.]”
Mayor Dan O’Brien called an end to the discussion until the FPPC decision.
City Attorney Heather Baker stated that her office would “assist with seeking an opinion from the FPPC,” and that it could take between four and six weeks.
