Friday August 29, 2025 at 12:35 pm, the Culver City Police Department responded to the report of a suspicious package on a bus bench on the 4900 block of Overland Avenue. Out of an abundance of caution, Officers cleared the immediate area, the Julian Dixon Library, and the Culver City Adult School nearby.
Overland Avenue was closed from Ocean Drive to Farragut Drive, and residents on the 4900 block of Overland Avenue were asked to shelter in place while the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Arson Explosives Detail (AED) assessed the package. Nearby schools in session were determined to be a safe distance away by the AED, and classes continued as planned.
Multiple NIXLE alerts went out to the community on Friday afternoon, at each stage of the investigation.
The package was examined, determined not to contain explosives, and was removed from the area. Once rendered safe, the 4900 block of Overland Avenue was immediately reopened. We thank our mutual aid partners who assisted us today at the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Arson Explosives Detail for their response and the UCLA Police Department for assisting us with calls for service while this incident unfolded.
