“All these young people …it’s you who inspire me,” Jim Lamm offered his admiration for the volunteers, students and scouts he had worked with through the Ballona Creek Renaissance, accepting his “Senior of the Year” award from the city.
The May 12, 2025 Culver City Council meeting began with Proclamations, and one of the first for the evening was to name Lamm the 2025 ‘Senior of the Year.’ The founder of the Ballona Creek Renaissance, Lamm was flanked by current President Deb Gregory, Council member Bubba Fish and BCR Board member Sandrine Cassidy at his acceptance.
“I see some folks standing up here that are a big part of why I’m standing up here …a big part of this has been working with the youth in this community. The Girl Scouts, the Boy Scouts, the Cub Scouts, the Ballona Creek Renaissance Club at the high school – all these young people working on activism with pollution, with plastics – you inspire me.”
Many of his accomplishments were highlighted, from his professorship at Antioch University to his activism at St. John’s Presbyterian Church, and his time in the Peace Corps alongside his wife, Cathi Lamm, in Iran. His essential work on the creek and the watershed has been and continues to be the focus of much of his community activism.
“It’s been my joy to do this work, and I’ll continue on.”
