
The CCUSD Board of Education unanimously approved naming the Culver City High School Baseball Field for Coach Rick Prieto.
The vote was taken at the Board meeting held on June 10, 2025. Supporters originally presented information to the Board on the many years of Coach Prieto’s service to the district and community at large at the May 13, 2025, meeting. Other CCHS coaches, teachers, students, and alumni all spoke on behalf of the name change.
No funding has been requested from the District, as any costs incurred will be taken care of by the committee.
Coach Prieto’s illustrious career in Culver City began asa student, and has included many honors.
He was a CCHS graduate in 1974, a CCHS Varsity Baseball Coach for 29 years, and a CCHS PE teacher for 29 years, and was named CCHS Coach of the Year on five occasions.
In a letter of support signed by multiple CCUSD colleagues, they wrote: “Throughout his career, (Coach Prieto) has been a model of consistency, holding high expectations for all his students and athletes. He never played favorites, treating everyone equally regardless of their talent level. He instilled valuable life lessons, teaching his students the importance of hard work, dedication, and perseverance. His players understood that nothing in life is given; everything must be earned through effort and commitment. Because of his guidance, they left CCHS mentally tough and prepared for the challenges of life.”
