In light of Immigration and Customs Enforcement activity in the Los Angeles area late last week and over the weekend, the leadership at the Culver City Unifed School District wanted to take a moment to share their efforts to keep our students safe and their commitment to ensuring all have the freedom to learn at Culver City schools.
From Superintendent Dr. Brian Lucas, “Our policies are clear: CCUSD does not and will not allow ICE agents to enter any of our campuses without a valid, properly executed judicial warrant
CCUSD has protocols in place in the event that any ICE agents seek entry, and we will be reminding leadership at all school sites of these protocols before students arrive on our campuses tomorrow morning CCUSD does not and will not collect or share information about the immigration status of our students or their families.
CCUSD is committed to creating campuses that are safe zones and resource centers for students and their families. The Board recently passed Resolution 21, which reiterates the District’s commitment to provide all students with their right to a public education and safety. Further, the Culver City Police Department (CCPD) has reaffirmed that it does not participate in immigration enforcement actions.
We recognize that these developments may be deeply distressing, particularly for students, families, and staff. Our team of school counselors, mental health specialists, and psychologists are available to provide support. We encourage you to contact your school principal if you or someone you know needs help. We are here for you.
We also have developed this webpage of resources. In addition, all people in the United States, regardless of immigration status, have certain rights and protections under the U.S. Constitution. The ILRC’s red cards, available HERE in 15 languages, give examples of how people can exercise these rights.
As always, our mission is to foster a safe school environment grounded in trust, respect, and belonging for all. Please feel free to reach out to us if you have any questions.”
