The 2025 schedule is out for the Los Angeles Chargers, and it will involve a lot of travel and five prime time games. The Chargers open the season with a home prime time game on a Friday Night in São Paulo, Brazil, against their AFC West rivals, the Kansas City Chiefs on September 5.
The game will be a Week 1 contest, and it will be streamed live and for free on YouTube and YouTube TV. Due to the Week 1 trip to Brazil, which will be considered a Chargers home game, the team will play one less game at SoFi Stadium this season for a total of eight regular season games at SoFi Stadium in the 17-game regular season schedule. The Chargers will play a preseason game at SoFi Stadium on Sunday, August 10, against the New Orleans Saints. The start time for that game is 1:05 pm.
The Chiefs have won nine consecutive AFC West titles, and if the Chargers want to get beyond being a wild-card playoff team, beating the Chiefs in the opener would be a good start. The Chargers travel to Las Vegas in Week 2 for a Monday Night prime time AFC West battle against the Raiders on ESPN.
The next week they return home for a Week 3 battle another AFC West division matchup against the Denver Broncos at SoFi Stadium. With three AFC West division games in the first three weeks, the Chargers will have an opportunity to make a statement about who they are going to be in 2025. Winning the AFC West and ending the Chiefs reign in the division should be a priority for the Chargers this season.
The other prime time games involve a Week 8 Thursday Night matchup at SoFi Stadium with the Minnesota Vikings, a Week 10 Sunday Night matchup with the Pittsburgh Steelers at SoFi Stadium and a Week 14 Sunday Night matchup with the Super Bowl Champion Philadelphia Eagles at SoFi Stadium. The Chargers will have a late season bye in Week 12.
The Chargers will do a lot of traveling in the 2025 season. Besides the trip to Brazil, the Chargers will travel in Week 4 to New Jersey to take on the New York Giants, in Week 6 to Miami to tangle with the Dolphins, in Week 9 to Nashville in a matchup with the Tennessee Titans, and in Week 11 to Jacksonville to take on the Jaguars.
According to bookies.com. the Chargers will travel the most air miles in the 2025 season of any NFL team at 37,086. The Cincinnati Bengals will fly the least number of miles at just 8,753 air miles. The 2025 season will be challenging for the Chargers, but coming off an 11-6 season, the expectations will be high.
The improvements made to the roster through the NFL draft and through free agency has added depth and hopefully reliability. In the playoff loss to the Houston Texans, there were players that simply did not perform well, and the depth of this 2025 Chargers roster will hopefully eliminate that issue.
