LOS ANGELES – UCLA shortstop Roch Cholowsky was named the Perfect Game College Player of the Year on Tuesday morning, adding to his growing list of accolades. He also earned ABCA First Team All-West Region honors.
Cholowsky made history in UCLA’s first Big Ten season, winning both Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year, becoming the first Bruin to claim both awards. He was also named a finalist for the Brooks Wallace Award and the Dick Howser Trophy and a semifinalist for the Golden Spikes Award.
A Perfect Game Freshman All-American in 2024, Cholowsky has helped propel UCLA to its first College World Series appearance since 2013.
At 47-16, this season marks UCLA’s highest win total since the 2019 squad went 52-11. He also led the Big Ten in OPS (1.261) and slugging percentage (.761), ranking third in on-base percentage (.500), total bases (175), and runs scored (78). His 23 home runs are the most by a Bruin since 2000.
Cholowsky and the Bruins will chase its first national title since 2013 when they open up the College World Series with a first-round matchup against Murray State on Saturday, June 14 at 11 a.m. PT (1 p.m. CT). The game will be broadcast on ESPN.
