Chyler Paton – Culver City Crossroads

With tremendous sadness and shock we share this news of the sudden and tragic death of recent CCHS Class of 2025 graduate, Chyler Paton. Chyler, a celebrated member of the CCHS football team who also played basketball for CCHS, was shot and killed at a party in Torrance Wednesday night.

Torrance Police responded to the scene, and the details surrounding the incident are currently under investigation by the Torrance Police Department. The suspect remains at large.

Chyler was set to attend Cal State Dominguez Hills this fall, a testament to his dedication to being both a star athlete and an academic scholar. He began attending Culver City Middle School in 6th grade, finishing his academic journey at Culver City High School this year.

CCHS Principal Thomas shared, “Chyler was a loved and valued part of our school community. He brought real joy and positivity wherever he went, and his presence made a difference. His loss is one that will be felt deeply by students, staff, and everyone here at CCHS.” Chyler was surrounded by a supportive and loving family, and our hearts are with his mother, father, and his sister, who is a current CCHS student. We are here to support them in every way we can.

CCUSD Superintendent Dr. Brian Lucas  offered “Chyler’s passing is a profound loss for the students, staff, and entire CCHS community. Losing someone is always difficult, but to lose someone so young, with a bright future ahead, and in such a tragic and violent way, is especially devastating. Our school counselors are available for support and we encourage you to reach out to them via [email protected]. Also, our partnership with CareSolace is a source to consider for confidential resources and guidance.”

Anyone with information regarding the shooting is urged to contact Torrance Police at (310) 328-3456.
