The Culver City Democratic Club is excited to welcome Alec Karakatsanis as the guest speaker for their May 14, 2025 online meeting, between 7-8PM. He will discuss his new book Copaganda: How Police and Media Manipulate Our News, just published by the New Press.
Karakatsanis is one of the leading abolitionist voices within the legal profession. The founder of the Civil Rights Corps, he is a graduate of Yale University and Harvard Law School and was named 2016 Trial Lawyer of the Year. His notable media appearances include The Daily Show and The Breakfast Club.
His first book: Usual Cruelty: The Complicity of Lawyers in the Criminal Injustice System, was published by the New Press in 2019, and his 2024 article “The Body Camera: The Language of Our Dreams” is available to read free online from the Yale Journal of Law and Liberation.
