Dear Editor,
In the past week, we have gathered over 850 signatures on our letter asking the CCUSD to form a stakeholder working committee and agendize phone-free schools. We have signatures from parents, teachers, counselors and admin — this is a powerful movement to stand up and prioritize CCUSD students’ mental health and safety on our campuses.
A few current action items for readers in the Culver City Unified Schools community:
1. Sign the letter if you haven’t already! It has also been translated to Spanish.
2. Ask others if they’d like to sign the letter. The school board has specifically requested to hear from diverse voices in the district – we need signatures from teachers, counselors, staff, parents of all backgrounds, and families of students with all needs and abilities.
3. Attend the CCUSD Board Meeting on Tuesday, May 27 at 6:00pm and wear light blue in support! We will have 2 people read and deliver the letter, as well as a few other people who are coming prepared to speak on the topic. Let’s show up with strong support! The tone will be cooperative, and supportive of the district’s teachers, staff, admin, parents and students. The open session begins at 6:00pm, and public comment typically happens shortly after the beginning of the meeting.
