RECOMMENDATION

Staff recommends the City Council (1) adopt a Resolution amending the regular meetings of the City Council for calendar year 2026 to add November 16, 2026 at 6:00PM (Attachment 1); and (2) adopt a Resolution setting the regular meetings of the City Council for the calendar year 2027 (Attachment 2).

BACKGROUND/DISCUSSION

The Charter of the City of Culver City, Section 608, authorizes the City Council to determine the regular meeting dates of the Council by ordinance or resolution and adjourn any regular meeting to a date certain.

Culver City Municipal Code (CCMC) Section 3.01.100 states that “all official, regular and adjourned meetings of the City Council shall be held in the City Hall on the second and fourth Mondays of each month at 7:00 p.m., unless otherwise specified by resolution of the City Council.”  The CCMC further states, “[i]f any regular meeting shall fall on a legal holiday, no meeting shall be held on such holiday, but shall be held on the next succeeding day thereafter that is not a holiday at 7:00 p.m.”

Calendar Year 2026 Amended Meeting Schedule

Staff recommends the City Council amend the meeting dates for Calendar Year 2026 to include November 16th as a regular meeting, with a start time of 6:00 p.m.  This will allow for certain items that may need to be considered at a regular meeting to be approved. 

Calendar Year 2027 Regular Meeting Schedule

Exhibit A of Attachment 2 outlines the dates for City Council to consider as the City Council regular meeting dates for 2027. Please note that the City plans for the City Council Summer break during the Culver City Unified School District (CCUSD) Summer break, which will be June 12 through August 17, 2027. It is recommended that the City Council Summer break occur on the 4th Monday of the month, July 26, 2027, as it has in the past. Please also note that the CCUSD Winter break is December 18 through December 31, 2027.

Staff recommends the City Council to consider meeting dates following a Monday holiday to also be considered a regular meeting date.

These dates are presented to City Council for approval and as discussed, may be amended upon majority consensus of the City Council.  Once the meeting dates are established by adoption of the proposed Resolution, they may only be changed by adoption of a subsequent resolution at a regular meeting of the City Council. 

FISCAL ANALYSIS

There is no fiscal impact from the adoption of the respective Resolutions.
