
When Jamie Wallace, holding a megaphone, asked the crowd, “Is this the America you want?” a loud roar of “NO!” came back from the people protesting.
A May Day protest rally at Culver City Hall drew a crowd of more than 1500, waving signs, chanting and shouting. The third protest action in recent weeks against the Republican administration drew participants from all over the west side of Los Angeles County, with people coming from Santa Monica, Westchester, Palms, Mar Vista and Venice.
As ever, the signs were creative politics at its best – “Eggs are expensive because all the chickens are in Congress,” “Dump the Creep and the Veep,” and “Fight Like a Ukrainian,” along with demands for Due Process, Impeach Now, and Call Them Out.
While not as sizable as the turnout on April 5, 2025, it was a formidable number of people for a mid-afternoon, weekday action.
Two women came in Handmaid’s Tale costumes, the striking red cloaks and wide white head-coverings famous from the dystopian television series.
The calls for community took instant effect when a late-model Acura started to overheat on Culver Boulevard, a dozen people dropped their signs and went to push the distressed driver to safe place on the side of the road.
