55-hour construction window to squeeze southbound I-405 near Westwood

Caltrans urges alternate routes as southbound freeway squeezes to two lanes.

Major traffic delays are expected along the Sepulveda Pass this weekend as California Department of Transportation crews reduce southbound Interstate 405 to just two lanes for the $143.7 million 405 Freeway pavement rehabilitation project.

The extended lane reductions begin at 10 p.m. Friday, July 24, and will remain in place through 5 a.m. Monday, July 27. Caltrans officials are strongly urging commuters to utilize public transit or map out alternate routes, as heavy congestion is anticipated between Van Nuys and Westwood.

Northbound travel lanes on the I-405 will remain open, though drivers will encounter localized ramp closures in the area. The southbound closures are as follows:

• Southbound I-405 reduced to two lanes through the U.S. 101 connectors
• Burbank Boulevard on-ramp to southbound I-405 closed
• Northbound I-405 off-ramp to Getty Center Drive closed
• Northbound U.S. 101 connector to southbound I-405 closed

Official Detour: Motorists traveling on northbound U.S. 101 aiming for southbound I-405 must exit at Sepulveda Boulevard, travel south along Sepulveda, and re-enter the 405 freeway using the Sepulveda Boulevard on-ramp.

Nearby residents and business owners should anticipate construction dust, ground vibrations, and heightened noise levels throughout the weekend.
