Sunset trunk line leaks fixed as crews work on second water main break on Santa Monica Boulevard.
Over a week after the water main rupture that spilled millions of gallons of water on Sunset Boulevard, which has shut down part of the Sunset Strip in West Hollywood because of the enormous sinkhole it opened up at the intersection of Holloway Drive and Sunset, the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power reports that the re-opening of the area is approaching.
On Thursday night, LADWP announced that a pinhole leak that was discovered in the Sunset Trunk Line was repaired and that the water main can again be refilled and repressurized, with the previously announced goal of reopening the affected area to traffic and restoring the water main to full use late on Friday remaining on schedule.

A second, but smaller, water main break caused more flooding a little over a mile away from the sinkhole on Sunset Boulevard. This second flood happened on Santa Monica Boulevard and Laurel Avenue in the early morning hours on Thursday. A six-inch pipe spilled water and affected 10 to 20 customers. LADWP workers were observed working on the second rupture on Thursday afternoon. Repairs to the water main were completed later Thursday evening, and water service and street access have been restored.
The last two weeks have been filled with water main issues, with two water mains breaking in Venice and a third water main rupture on Tuesday in Sherman Oaks on Coldwater Canyon Boulevard.
