Two West Los Angeles favorites put a fresh spin on Mango Sticky Rice

Specialty drinks and artisanal pastries reimagine the classic Thai dessert.

Westside sweet tooths and coffee lovers have two new reasons to celebrate as two local restaurants debut limited-time menu items inspired by the beloved Southeast Asian dessert, mango sticky rice.

While these two items were created completely independently of one another, specialty coffee roaster MadLab Coffee and popular donut destination Sidecar Doughnuts have both released custom creations that reimagine the classic combination of tropical fruit, coconut cream, and sticky rice.

MadLab Coffee has added a handcrafted Mango Sticky Rice beverage across its locations in Culver City, Mid-City, and Hollywood. The drink features a house-made base infused with coconut milk, mango, and lemon juice, topped with a fluffy baked meringue layer that balances the sweet flavors underneath.

Meanwhile, Sidecar Doughnuts is serving its own confectionery take on both Thailand’s classic dessert and Van Leeuwen Ice Cream’s fan-favorite flavor, available daily starting at 8:00 a.m., while supplies last. The specialty donut features a classic Thai coconut sticky rice foundation topped with sweet mango glaze, fresh fruit slices, coconut cream drizzle, toasted sesame seeds, and puffed rice for texture.

Both items are currently available; the mango sticky rice donut was added to Sidecar’s menu on July 21, and both might make a delicious combo for those who love Mango Sticky Rice enough to both eat and drink an interpretation of the dessert. Come on, prove your Mango Sticky Rice love.
