The “No Kings” rally at Culver City City Hall on June 14, 2025, part of a national movement to protest the unlawful actions of the federal government, drew an amazing crowd that organizers estimate at 10,000 people.
The rally was scheduled to begin at 11 am and last until 12:30 pm, but by 10 am the space in front 0f city hall was already crowded with people carrying signs, sporting the “No Kings” logo, and many more original and creative slogans as well.
The protest grew exponentially over the next hour, with hundreds o0f people pouring down the sidewalks from the train station, filling in both sides of Culver Boulevard and the median as well. Cars that drove through often honked and cheered along with the rally. But by noon, the crowd has swelled to fill the intersection of Culver and Duquesne, with people dancing in the street all the way down to Madison.
People throughout the crowd were enthusiastic and cheerful, with several young women handing out flowers, a man playing protest songs on a guitar, and many baby strollers carting additional signage. Toddlers hoisted onto parents shoulders cheered along with those waving signs and singing.
On the other end of the protest, traffic turned aside at Irving Place, as people with placards filled the roadway, and chants of “No Kings, No Way,” and “Lock Him Up,” turned up the volume on the crowd.
That June 14 is also Flag Day was not lost on the crowd, with American flags visible everywhere, more than a few hung upside down as a distress signal.
Organizers connected with the national Indivisible organization had said at 9 am on Saturday morning that they had about 4,000 rsvp’s online, but they expected the crowd to be bigger than that, as many people would just show up. Indivisible, in concert with national 50501 organization, has held protests at Culver City City Hall since early this Spring. The “Hands Off Social Security/Medicare” rally on April 19, 2025 drew the biggest crowd so far, estimated at more than a thousand.
Until June 14 – at it’s height in the early afternoon, estimates of 10,000 people looked quite credible. Even after the official end of the rally at 12:30pm, protestors continued to arrive, and numbers were likely close to 6,000 at 2 pm. By 4 pm, the crowd had thinned out, with some headed to the next closest rallies at Playa Vista and Westchester.
Indivisible is hosting a ‘Strategy & Tactics’ workshop in West Hollywood on June 18, and there is another rally planned for Culver City City Hall on June 21 at the same 11 am to 12:30 pm time slot.
