Sales Tax Hike OKed by Voters



On Thursday, September 4, at 11:00 AM, in the City Council Chambers, the City Clerk’s Office continued the official tabulation of all Vote by Mail (VBM) election ballots for Measure CL. The public observed both in person and virtually on a livestream.

Final voting results on Measure CL, which would impose a general sales tax at the rate of 1/4-cent per dollar, have been released. A majority of Culver City voters are in favor of the ballot measure.

Ballots, which had been received by mail or retrieved from the drop boxes and signature verified post-election day, were tabulated. The updated number of ballots tabulated is now 6,447, with the final results as follows:

YES: 4,327 votes (67.1%)

NO: 2,120 votes (32.9%)

TOTAL: 6,447 votes

The election will be certified at the City Council Meeting on Monday, September 8th.

Information on Measure CL

According to city sources Measure CL would provide funding for general City services including: maintaining three fully staffed fire stations/ 911 emergency response times; retaining firefighters, paramedics, police officers; homeless reduction services/ encampment prevention; improving parks/ fields; repairing potholes/ streets/ storm drains; senior/ youth services and other General Fund uses, by enacting a ¼ cent sales tax, providing approximately $5,600,000 annually until ended by voters. This also requires all funds be locally controlled with audits and public spending disclosures.
