Santa Monica College (SMC) will host “A Conversation with Artist Amadour,” a talk by the multidisciplinary artist and SMC and UCLA alum whose creative practice spans music, visual art, and writing. The event – honoring Latinx Heritage Month and LGBTQ+ History Month – is free and will be presented live on Thursday, Oct. 9, at 11:15 a.m. in two formats:
• Online through the link at the Oct. 9 event listing at smc.edu/events that goes live shortly before the event begins, and
• On campus in the SMC Student Services Center, Orientation Hall (SSC 183), located on the SMC Main Campus at 1900 Pico Blvd., Santa Monica.
Amadour will present a unique look into a selection of their work and their artistic process and cross-disciplinary approach. They will also talk about the importance of building community through active engagement, and share insights on navigating the academic path, especially when coming from a nontraditional or nonacademic background.
A cofounder of Who Is Seen magazine, Amadour has exhibited at Kotaro Nukaga (Tokyo, Japan), Galería La Cometa (Bogotá, Colombia), FF Projects (San Pedro Garza Garcia, Mexico), and Emma Scully Gallery (New York, USA). Their art and writing have been featured in frieze, Artillery Magazine, ARTnews Japan, Exibart, Cultbytes, and The Brooklyn Rail, and included in the permanent archive of the Getty Research Institute Library.
The event is sponsored by the SMC Associates. More information is available by calling the SMC Office of Public Programs at 310-434-4100.
