RECOMMENDATION:

It is recommended the City Council (1) consider naming a City facility in honor of former Culver City Parks, Recreation, and Community Services Commissioner Rick Hudson; and, (2) if desired, direct the City Manager regarding such naming as deemed appropriate.

BACKGROUND AND DISCUSSION:

On January 7, 2016 the City Clerk’s Office received a letter from Mr. Gerry Biernat requesting the City Council consider naming a baseball field after Mr. Hudson.  A similar letter from Mr. Jerry Chabola was received by the City Clerk’s Office on January 19, 2016.  Both letters were forwarded to the City Council for their information.

At the January 25, 2016 City Council meeting, the City Council provided consensus to consider this item.  Attached is City Council Policy Statement 2006-01 “Naming of City Facilities” for ease of reference.

FISCAL ANALYSIS:

Should the City Council determine to direct the City Manager to move forward with this proposal, staff would ultimately return to the City Council with an estimate of the fiscal impact (if any) of the proposed renaming consistent with the direction provided by the City Council.
